  • Rice production needs to see a 50% increase by 2030 to keep up with population growth, but as the climate warms, rice plants will likely become less efficient. Fortunately, scientists are working on a pretty clever potential solution.

@JUST 2HI4U If we stopped all CO2 emissions right now,
it would change the world in many different ways.
      Like, all the trees dying.
Trees need CO2 to produce Oxygen.
Without CO2, trees can't produce Oxygen,
      and everything would eventually die.

What we need to do is deals with,
      vehicle exhaust.
      by making more electric vehicle,
      factory exhaust,
by making more "green power" machines,
      cow exhaust,
but limiting a farm's cow count,
      and human exhaust,
      by limiting reproduction.

      Those that the ONLY ways,
we can save life on the planet.

@General Durandal what no! Dude! You're looking at it the wrong way! We could stop all human C02 emmisions right now and it wouldnt stop whats already done.... Were gonna do our best and hope for the best, but no matter how you slice it or what we do, its still gonna warm up to some extent... How badly is still up in the air but this is good science! Even if the world doesnt heat up, we somehow figure something out and save our current climate, then we can just go "whoops oh well guess we didnt need that rice experiment", but if it does (and its going to) future humans can have scientists to thank for tweeking the foods we eat so we dont starve when the enviroment no longer fits the plants needs to grow

So, instead of trying to fight claimant change, which would cool the planet,
they are instead making Rice live more efficiently in hotter environments?
How well will they live if the planet cools back down to it's normal temp?
You guys are just making the long turm existence of Humanity worse by taking the easy rout.

So extraordinarily disappointed with Scientists right now.
Just sitting on their thumbs waiting for permission to work on something,
they don't need permission to work on.

How bout make a cow that produces less methane?

Or cars that generate less exhaust?

Problem is, economics depends on constant growth including population. A decrease in human population would reduce both co2 production and rice demand. People don't believe in overpopulation but in nature everywhere you see maximum population capacity for all organisms. Eventually everything hits a limit where they self compete for living space or food. Surplus will suffer culling because that's just how nature is, it doesn't care.

So c3 sounds like it has the ability to warm the plant. But can over heat it also.
And c4 can keep the plant cool. But but can it warm also?

Let’s say the scientists do find a solution to improve rice crop yields by 50%. That is only a one time stop gap as the world population gains in proportion to consume the extra rice. At that point you are back to square one.

My solution is people need to eat more potatoes they produce way more calories per an acre than most crops and have lots of nutrients. They also taste really good.

So if environmental changes in the areas where we grow rice are causing lower yield because those areas are now warmer than before, then isn't another solution -that we change locations of the rice farms to areas that previously were too cold for efficient farming but now have warmed to ideal temperatures?

Interesting Rice produces 5,625 pounds per acre and corn produces 6,200 pounds per acre, and Potatoes produce 15,200 pounds per acre. So I say dump rice and corn and get potatoes.
