I feel blessed to be living in Boston now where, even though the public transportation isn’t great and slow, it’s still pretty good if you need to get around town

that's mad, i wish public transport was better globally! as a 16 year old in somerset, england there is barely any public transport, probably because the population density is so low - 161 people/km² compared to england's average of 415/km²

The term "Small Government" has nothing to do with the actual "size" of of governments, it's all about the enforceability of regulations on corporations, i.e. "rules" on the behalf of the public's interest.

One thing not well known, streetcar companies usually had their own power generators. More than their lines needed... so they sold that excess power to the public, which boosted revenue. Then came Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935... which made it ILLEGAL to be both a power company and a streetcar operator. All that extra revenue went poof.

6:40 I live in Boston and always use public transportation. It gets me pretty much anywhere I need, although it does take longer than driving. Trains come every 5 minutes and buses usually come every 10-40 minutes, depending on the stop. Once in a while I need to use uber or lyft, but all in all it’s way cheaper and more efficient to not own a car here.

In all seriousness, I'm happy to see local public transport being expanded, especially considering the large homeless problem. It's nothing new to know that people can navigate the most dense areas on TRAX streetcars for free thanks to the free fare zone, but now I'm hearing rumors that UTA is considering making all TRAX lines free at some point. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but it would have such a positive impact if true.

There's also the new bus routes being continually planned and added, and the TRAX line to the SLC airport that was constructed just a few years ago. A line to the airport is of course amazingly helpful in its own right, but this line also brought in another Frontrunner transfer station placed on South Temple - right next to the urban hub. The high-speed Frontrunner lines are instrumental in connecting the more distant, more affordable housing areas with downtown SLC, so this new transfer station has made a world of convenience for many people, including a few of my friends.

The Utah state government might not have all of its ducks in a row (far from it), but it's good to see effort being made on the continued production of public transport.

                                                                      • Moeychakafoos

I seriously respect the idea of freedom that Americans tend to have, but in this case, associating having a car with freedom is clearly an illusion!

I live in Boston and am reasonably happy with public transportation here (not perfect, but works) to not need a car. But I didn't realize how strongly I felt about public transport until I took a trip to the West where I had to basically drive by myself all the time. I enjoyed my time overall but boy was I was rearing to get back to Boston and not have to worry about driving to every single place, no matter how small a thing I may need.

I don't have a problem with Americans loving the car, but my point is, if someone doesn't want to drive, he should not be forced to drive.

Forcing someone to drive is not freedom because the public transport is usually appalling. Providing them option to choose from good road system and good public transport system is the real definition of freedom!

                                                                          • Nick Akers

There’s a lot of things to be worried about in regards to the future of this country, but I think that we will see an even more considerable resurgence of quality public transportation in the coming decades. Personally I don’t see myself ever going without owning a car, it’s true what he says in the video, it offers you a freedom that fixed transportation routes can’t fill, that’s both the case in the US, as well as in Europe. However, what’s frustrating to me is that I have to jump into my car to go to a lot of places within my own city. I shouldn’t have to drive, I should be able to leave my car sitting for days at a time without using it. I’m fortunate to live in a neighborhood with loose zoning laws, but even to get to my job would take an hour with public transportation, but if I go during off-peak hours, I could drive there in 20 minutes. Rush hour can be much more brutal, but considering the transit option is a bus, I’m SOL either way.

Trump is only making things worse with his logic, thinking that everyone needs a gone, and anyone can get a gun with a broken backround check. That's how school shooters got their guns, even if they have criminal records.
